How long after menstruation ends can cervical cancer screening be performed?
Disease description:
My period has just ended, and I haven't had any menstrual irregularities during this time. I've also been getting adequate rest. I'd like to know when I can have a cervical cancer screening. How long after the end of my period can I undergo cervical cancer screening?
You can undergo cervical cancer screening from three days after the end of your menstrual period until the start of your next period, provided there is no vaginal bleeding during this time. This test is called liquid-based cervical cytology, which involves collecting exfoliated cells around the cervical canal using a brush for cytological examination. Right after menstruation, menstrual blood may wash away many of the exfoliated cells, so the optimal time for cytology testing is in the latter half of the menstrual cycle, when more cells are available, leading to better test results.
