One week after menstruation, brownish discharge may appear. Any vaginal bleeding occurring outside the menstrual period is considered abnormal uterine bleeding. Brown discharge is usually caused by minimal bleeding; when blood is exposed to the acidic environment of the vagina, it turns brown. Vaginal bleeding one week after the end of menstruation often corresponds to ovulatory bleeding, which is typically due to endometrial shedding caused by a temporary hormonal fluctuation during ovulation. However, such bleeding can also result from other underlying conditions, including organic endometrial disorders such as endometrial polyps, endometrial hyperplasia, pelvic inflammatory disease—especially endometritis—and uterine tumors, whether benign or malignant.
