Can you get pregnant if having sex right after your period ends?
Disease description:
My period ended just three days ago, but my husband and I had intercourse, and he said it was the safe period so I wouldn't get pregnant. However, I'm worried about the possibility of an unexpected pregnancy. Can I get pregnant if I have sex right after my period ends?
The chance of pregnancy after having sex immediately following the end of menstruation is relatively low, but it is not completely safe.
Typically, women ovulate at specific times within their menstrual cycle, and menstruation as well as the days immediately after are usually outside this fertile window, making conception less likely. However, sperm can survive inside a woman's body for several days, sometimes long enough to remain viable for a few days after menstruation ends, creating a small risk of pregnancy. Additionally, although the probability is low, pregnancy cannot be entirely ruled out. Therefore, if pregnancy is not desired, effective contraception should always be used during sexual intercourse, regardless of the phase of the menstrual cycle, to prevent unintended pregnancy.
