What should be done for candidal balanitis with penile pain?
Disease description:
Hello, my friend recently developed candidal balanitis with pain in the glans penis. What should we do?
For glans pain caused by candidal balanitis, it is recommended to clean the glans and inner foreskin daily with plain water, avoiding the use of irritating cleansers. Soaking with a male antibacterial solution or washing with a 1:5000 potassium permanganate solution may be used. Apply a non-irritating topical antifungal cream locally, such as clotrimazole ointment or miconazole cream. If topical treatment is ineffective, oral antifungal medication may be considered, such as itraconazole 200 mg once weekly for two consecutive weeks. Avoid sexual activity or use condoms during intercourse to reduce irritation to the glans. Maintain a light diet and avoid spicy or irritating foods. Ensure adequate rest to enhance immune function. Seek medical attention promptly if pain persists or worsens.
