AB blood type is a rare blood type, found in only about 5% of the global population. Unlike other blood types, AB blood type carries not only A and B antigens, but also the AB blood group antigen. The rarity of AB blood type can be attributed to two reasons. First, AB blood type is a combined blood type, unlike type A or type B, which are both single blood types. Therefore, the occurrence of AB blood type is much less common than other blood types. Second, the rarity of AB blood type may also be due to genetic factors, as the probability of inheriting the AB blood group antigen is much lower than that of inheriting the A or B antigens.
