Is it normal to have lower back pain when practicing backbends?
Disease description:
I practice yoga, and recently I've been experiencing soreness in my lower back and waist during practice, which is strange because I've never had this issue before. Is it normal to feel pain in the lumbar spine when doing backbends?
Lower back pain during backbend exercises is not necessarily normal and should be evaluated based on specific circumstances. Generally, if the pain in the lumbar spine is brief and mild during backbending practice, it may result from muscle fatigue or minor strain, which is a normal physiological response and can usually be relieved through proper rest, heat application, and similar methods. However, if the pain persists or worsens, especially when accompanied by symptoms such as numbness or weakness in the lower limbs, it could indicate lumbar spine injury, such as lumbar muscle strain or lumbar disc herniation. In such cases, prompt medical attention is recommended for evaluation and treatment by a qualified healthcare professional. To protect the lumbar spine, it is important to maintain correct posture during backbend exercises and avoid excessive force or twisting movements. Additionally, strengthening the muscles of the lower back to improve spinal stability and flexibility can help reduce the risk of lumbar injury.
