I've always been unhappy with my small eyes, and I recently had an eye corner surgery at a plastic surgery clinic. But now my eyes are extremely swollen. I'd like to ask, can eye corner surgery cause eye pain?

Dr. Chen Lu

Eye corner surgery usually causes eye swelling, as the procedure creates some trauma to the skin and tissues around the eye area, resulting in localized edema. Swelling is typically most noticeable within the first 1 to 3 days after surgery, but it gradually subsides over time, usually resolving within about 7 to 12 days.

In the initial postoperative period, cold compresses can be applied to help reduce swelling and discomfort. It's also important to follow your doctor’s instructions, including taking prescribed anti-inflammatory medications and antibiotics on schedule to prevent infection and minimize inflammatory responses. Additionally, maintaining cleanliness and dryness of the eye area and avoiding rubbing the eyes are crucial.

If swelling persists or is accompanied by other uncomfortable symptoms, prompt medical follow-up is recommended to evaluate for possible complications or the need for further treatment.
