Dr. Wang Shuai
The causes of keratitis are varied and mainly include the following: 1. Infectious factors: Infection is the most common cause of keratitis, including bacterial, viral, and fungal infections. These pathogenic microorganisms can easily invade the corneal tissue when the corneal epithelium is damaged or the body's immunity is reduced, triggering an inflammatory response. 2. Systemic diseases: Certain systemic conditions, such as autoimmune diseases and vitamin A deficiency, may also affect corneal health and lead to keratitis. 3. Diseases of adjacent tissues: Conditions affecting tissues near the cornea, such as acute conjunctivitis and scleritis, may spread to the cornea and cause keratitis. 4. Environmental factors: Living for prolonged periods in warm, humid environments, or wearing contact lenses for extended durations without proper disinfection or timely replacement, can increase the risk of keratitis. 5. Trauma: Eye injuries, such as corneal scratches or abrasions, may also result in keratitis.
