Trichomonas vaginitis is a common vaginal inflammation caused by infection with Trichomonas vaginalis. This condition is primarily transmitted through sexual contact, but can also spread indirectly through shared use of public baths, towels, swimming pools, sitting toilets, clothing, and other personal items. Trichomonas vaginalis parasitizes areas such as the vagina and urethra in women, causing symptoms including itching, burning, pain in the external genitalia, and increased vaginal discharge. The discharge is typically thin, purulent, yellow-green in color, frothy, and has a foul odor. In addition, trichomonas vaginitis may lead to urinary tract infections, manifesting as frequent urination, urgency, and painful urination. Treatment usually involves antiprotozoal medications, along with attention to personal hygiene to prevent cross-infection. Individuals experiencing symptoms should seek medical care promptly.
