Can ovulation test strips detect pregnancy?
Disease description:
My period is already four to five days late, and I suspect I might be pregnant. My boyfriend suggested that I buy an ovulation test strip to check for pregnancy. I'd like to ask, can an ovulation test strip detect pregnancy?
Ovulation test strips cannot be used to detect pregnancy. Their primary function is to monitor the ovulation period by measuring the level of luteinizing hormone (LH) in urine, thereby helping women predict their time of ovulation. Ovulation test strips do not detect human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) levels in urine, which is the key indicator for confirming pregnancy. To test for pregnancy, it is recommended to use a pregnancy test strip, typically about one week after a missed period, when hCG levels in the urine are significantly elevated. Pregnancy test strips detect hCG levels in urine to determine whether a woman is pregnant. For faster and more accurate results, individuals may also choose to go to a hospital for a blood test, which is more reliable. Although ovulation test strips and pregnancy test strips are similar in appearance, they differ in detection principles and purposes, and therefore should not be used interchangeably.
