Dr. Zhou Xiaofeng
Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, also known as favism, is a hereditary hemolytic disease typically triggered by consuming fava beans or their products. There is no fixed age at which individuals with favism enter a safe period. Generally, episodes are more common in children under the age of ten, as younger children have weaker self-control and are more likely to accidentally ingest fava bean products. After the age of ten, with improved self-regulation and a better understanding of their condition, children may consciously avoid eating fava beans and related products, thus entering a relatively safe period. However, it should be noted that this timing is not absolute, as individual physical conditions and severity of the disease vary, leading to differences in when a person may reach this safer stage.
