Foods to Avoid for G6PD Deficiency (Favism)
Disease description:
My child recently had a physical examination, and it was found that he/she has G6PD deficiency (favism). May I ask, which vegetables should be avoided with G6PD deficiency?
Patients with favism should avoid the following types of vegetables:
1. Broad beans and their products: Since favism is triggered by consuming broad beans or broad bean products, patients should completely avoid eating broad beans, broad bean flour, broad bean paste, etc.
2. Spicy and irritating foods: Such as chili peppers, onions, and garlic. These foods may irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa and exacerbate symptoms of favism.
3. Cold-natured foods: Such as winter melon. Cold-natured foods may increase internal coldness in the body, leading to discomfort symptoms such as diarrhea and abdominal pain.
4. Specific vegetables: Such as bitter melon and coriander. Certain substances in bitter melon may affect the body's absorption of iron, while coriander may cause red blood cell destruction, worsening the condition.
