Dr. Zhao Xiaodong
The cervix, also known as the cervical region of the uterus, is located in the lower part of the female uterus and serves as a crucial connection between the uterus and the vagina. Situated deep within the vagina, it has a cone-like shape and measures approximately 2.5 to 3 centimeters in length. The upper end of the cervix connects to the uterine body, while the lower end extends into the vagina. The cervix has a unique structure containing a central canal called the cervical canal, with the distance between its internal and external openings constituting the length of the cervical canal. The cervix not only acts as a passageway for sperm to enter the uterus but also functions in sperm storage. Additionally, during pregnancy, the cervix remains closed to ensure the safe development of the fetus within the uterus. In gynecological examinations, the cervix is one of the key areas physicians assess to evaluate female reproductive health.
