Two days ago, when I went to the hospital for a checkup, I was diagnosed with adnexitis. What are the potential harms or complications of adnexitis?

Dr. Zhao Xiaodong
The harm of adnexitis to women is mainly reflected in the following aspects: 1. Impact on fertility: Adnexitis, especially chronic adnexitis, if left untreated for a long time, may lead to mucosal adhesions within the fallopian tubes, causing tubal blockage and subsequently resulting in infertility. Statistics show that the infertility rate significantly increases among patients with long-term untreated chronic adnexitis. 2. Ovarian function impairment: Adnexitis may prevent the ovaries from performing their normal physiological functions, leading to ovarian dysfunction. This can affect female secondary sexual characteristics and even cause endocrine disorders and premature skin aging. 3. Increased risk of ectopic pregnancy: Chronic adnexitis can cause incomplete obstruction of the fallopian tube lumen, greatly increasing the likelihood of ectopic pregnancy (tubal pregnancy), posing a serious threat to the pregnant woman's life. 4. Other complications: Adnexitis may also lead to hydrosalpinx, fluid accumulation, or pyosalpinx, further interfering with the normal transport of sperm, ova, or fertilized eggs. Adnexitis poses a serious threat to women's physical health and reproductive capacity, and therefore should be detected and treated as early as possible.
