How to determine if there are pinworms outside the anus
Disease description:
My son has recently been experiencing persistent itching around the anal area and restless sleep. I suspect it might be caused by pinworms. How can I tell if there are pinworms around the anus?

To determine whether pinworms are present around the anus, consider the following observations and methods:
1. Symptom observation: If there is noticeable itching around the anus or perineum at night—especially after falling asleep—along with possible symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, or diarrhea, this may indicate a pinworm infection.
2. Visual inspection: After the person has fallen asleep at night, use a flashlight or similar tool to examine the area around the anus for small, white, thread-like worms, as pinworms often emerge from the anus to lay eggs during nighttime.
3. Egg detection: Before defecating in the morning, press a piece of transparent adhesive tape repeatedly against the skin near the anus, then examine the tape under a microscope for the presence of pinworm eggs. These eggs are typically colorless, transparent, and oval-shaped.
4. Medical examination: If the above methods fail to confirm an infection, visit a hospital for further evaluation, including an anoscopy, complete blood count (CBC), or routine stool test, to definitively diagnose a pinworm infection. If any discomfort occurs, it is advisable to seek medical attention promptly.
