Do not spit on broken skin caused by scratching after an insect bite. Although spitting may help maintain oral hygiene and freshen breath in daily life, it is ineffective for treating broken skin from insect bites. While human saliva contains certain digestive enzymes and lysozymes, these components do not significantly relieve itching or promote healing of skin injuries caused by insect bites. The mouth harbors numerous microorganisms, including some potentially harmful pathogens. Applying saliva to broken skin may increase the risk of bacterial infection and worsen skin conditions. After scratching and breaking the skin due to an insect bite, it is recommended to clean the wound with clean water and apply appropriate ointments or medications under medical guidance.
