Wet earwax, also known as wet cerumen, does not necessarily cause body odor. There is no direct connection between wet earwax and axillary osmidrosis (body odor) in terms of causes or pathology. The presence of wet earwax may be related to genetic factors, water entering the external ear canal, otitis media, external otitis, or eczema of the outer ear. In contrast, axillary odor results from secretions of apocrine glands in the armpits being broken down by bacteria, producing a distinctive unpleasant smell. Although some believe that oily earwax (i.e., wet earwax) might be associated with body odor, there is no solid evidence supporting this view. If you have concerns or symptoms regarding axillary osmidrosis, it is recommended to consult a medical professional.
