Can prostatitis cause prostate enlargement?
Disease description:
I am a prostatitis patient who has been taking medication for several years without improvement. Could prostatitis cause an enlarged prostate?

Prostatitis may lead to prostate enlargement, but the two conditions are not equivalent. In patients with prostatitis, the prostate is often somewhat enlarged, primarily due to congestion, swelling, and inflammatory cell infiltration caused by inflammation. With effective drug therapy, physical therapy, and comprehensive treatment, the prostate usually gradually returns to its normal size. Prostate enlargement is not necessarily a direct result of prostatitis and may also be related to other causes such as prostatic cysts or prostate cancer. Therefore, when prostate enlargement is detected, further examination should be conducted to determine the underlying cause, followed by appropriate treatment.
