Having a lot of dandruff on the scalp is not necessarily a sign of psoriasis. Although increased dandruff may be a symptom of various skin conditions, in most cases, psoriasis presents more distinct and unique characteristics. The basic symptoms of psoriasis include red or reddish-brown papules appearing on the skin, covered with dry, silvery-white scales. These scales may shed and can gradually thicken. Excessive dandruff, however, may simply result from multiple factors such as excessive sebum secretion, vitamin B deficiency, climate changes, unhealthy lifestyle habits, and others. Psoriatic lesions may also be accompanied by symptoms such as pain and itching. Moreover, psoriasis is a relatively stubborn skin condition that tends to recur. In comparison, excessive dandruff does not necessarily present these associated symptoms. While excessive dandruff might be a symptom of psoriasis, it is more commonly caused by other factors. If excessive dandruff is accompanied by other symptoms, it is recommended to seek timely medical attention for diagnosis and treatment by a qualified physician.
