Dr. Liu Wenmin

Dandruff, an itchy scalp, and hair loss may be caused by seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp. Overactive sebaceous glands and excessive proliferation of Malassezia can lead to scalp inflammation, accelerating keratinocyte turnover and forming dandruff. Inflammation can also stimulate nerve endings, causing itching. Long-term inflammation may affect follicle health, leading to hair loss. These symptoms could also result from using unsuitable shampoo, excessive perming or dyeing that damages the scalp and hair, or deficiencies in certain vitamins and trace elements that affect the normal hair growth cycle.

If seborrheic dermatitis is suspected, medicated shampoos containing ingredients such as selenium sulfide or ketoconazole may be used under a doctor's guidance, although prolonged continuous use is not recommended.

Dietary recommendations include consuming foods rich in B vitamins, zinc, and other essential nutrients, such as lean meats, fish, legumes, and nuts. Reduce the frequency of perming and dyeing, and avoid washing your hair with excessively hot water.
