Can prostatitis affect sperm quality?
Disease description:
I recently went to the hospital for a routine semen analysis, and the results showed poor sperm quality. Could this be related to my prostatitis? I would like to ask whether prostatitis can affect sperm quality?
Prostatitis may affect sperm quality in the following ways:
1. Changes in prostatic fluid quality: Prostatic fluid is an important component of semen. When the prostate becomes inflamed, the quality of the secreted prostatic fluid changes, thereby affecting sperm survival and motility.
2. Impaired nutritional supply to sperm: Prostatic fluid contains nutrients essential for sperm. In prostatitis, increased bacteria and toxins in the prostatic fluid consume the nutrient components of seminal plasma, reducing sperm viability.
3. Reduced sperm motility: Prostatitis decreases the activity of enzymes in prostatic fluid, leading to prolonged semen liquefaction time and impairing sperm movement.
4. Production of anti-sperm antibodies: During prostate inflammation, the body may produce anti-sperm antibodies that can damage or destroy sperm.
