The main reasons for oliguria caused by ureteral stones include: obstruction of the ureter by the stone, which impedes urine excretion, prevents urine produced by the kidneys from flowing smoothly into the bladder, and consequently reduces urine output. Stones can lead to hydronephrosis, causing urine retention in the renal pelvis, impairing glomerular filtration function, and increasing reabsorption of water by the renal tubules, which can further lead to oliguria. In addition, ureteral narrowing or spasm may also be triggered by irritation from the stone, further hindering urine excretion and resulting in reduced urine output. Severe complications such as septic shock and acute kidney injury can also be caused by ureteral stones; these complications can lead to systemic inflammatory responses or kidney dysfunction, thereby significantly decreasing urine output.
