Treatment of Ureteral Calculi
Disease description:
I have a ureteral stone, and I experience severe pain every time I urinate. May I ask what the treatment for ureteral stones is?

There are various treatment options for ureteral stones, and it is crucial to select the appropriate method based on the size and location of the stone. For stones smaller than 6 millimeters in diameter, medical expulsive therapy is recommended, such as using medications like Jinshitong or Pailishi granules, along with drinking plenty of water and engaging in physical activity to facilitate stone passage. For larger stones, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) and ureteroscopic lithotripsy via the urethra are effective treatment methods. ESWL is suitable for stones located in the upper segment of the ureter, while ureteroscopic lithotripsy is primarily used for stones in the middle and lower segments. If the stone's diameter exceeds 1 centimeter or other treatments are not applicable, ureterolithotomy may be considered. During treatment, patients should follow medical advice and maintain healthy lifestyle habits to promote recovery.
