Dr. Xu Shuai
Knee pain after a fall should first be assessed for the severity of the injury. If there are no signs of fracture, follow these steps for treatment: 1. Immobilization: Immediately stop any activity, rest in bed with the knee kept straight to avoid further injury. 2. Disinfection: If there is a wound, use a cotton swab dipped in iodophor to disinfect the area twice, wiping from the inside outward. 3. Cold and hot compress: Apply a cold compress within 48 hours after the injury to reduce swelling; switch to a hot compress after 48 hours to promote blood circulation. 4. Topical and oral medications: Apply topical blood circulation-promoting and pain-relieving medications such as Yunnan Baiyao, or take oral anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving medications as directed by a physician. If the pain does not subside or worsens, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly to rule out the possibility of a fracture or other serious injuries.
