The scapula, also known as the shoulder blade, is located at the upper corners of the back and is an important bone forming the upper limb and shoulder joint. Its precise location is on the posterior-lateral aspect of the thoracic cage, between the second and seventh ribs. The scapula is shaped like a traditional Chinese string instrument called a pipa, hence its name. Specifically, the scapula has three surfaces, three angles, and three borders. The anterior surface features a large shallow depression called the subscapular fossa. The scapula moves significantly when actions such as shrugging the shoulders, straightening the back, or rounding the shoulders are performed. If pain is felt in the scapular area, it may be related to various causes such as trauma, shoulder periarthritis (frozen shoulder), or cervical spondylosis. It is recommended to take appropriate treatment measures according to the specific cause of the pain.
