What causes pain below the right scapula (shoulder blade)?
After lifting heavy objects, I experienced pain just below the right scapula. Why is this?
Pain below the right scapula (shoulder blade) can be categorized into the following causes:
1. Muscle strain: Prolonged high-intensity work or carrying heavy objects may damage the back muscles, leading to pain.
2. Trauma: Impact injuries or sprains can also cause pain in this area, especially when there is a bone fracture or soft tissue damage.
3. Nerve compression: Compression of cervical or thoracic nerve roots can cause radiating pain. In such cases, pain may extend from the shoulder to the back and even into the arm. Common causes include herniated discs and bone spurs.
4. Bone disorders: Bone diseases such as fractures, osteoporosis, or tumors can cause back pain, particularly in middle-aged and elderly individuals.
Mild muscle strains or tension can be relieved through rest, heat application, massage, and appropriate physical therapy. Nerve compression may require medication, physical therapy, or surgical treatment. If you experience persistent or severe back pain, it is recommended to seek medical evaluation at a hospital immediately.
