Liver palms (palmar erythema) are a common external manifestation of liver disease, particularly evident in patients with chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis. The main characteristics of liver palms include: 1. Color change: Reddening appears on the thenar and hypothenar eminences of the palms, resembling cinnabar in color. The redness temporarily turns pale under pressure and returns to red once the pressure is released. 2. Distribution pattern: Pink spots and patches are present on both sides of the palms and the fingertips' palmar surfaces, including the thenar and hypothenar areas. 3. Other features: The center of the palm typically maintains a normal color, while numerous expanded, confluent punctate arterioles can be observed. The appearance of liver palms is usually associated with weakened liver function and may be related to impaired liver function and circulatory disturbances caused by diseases such as cirrhosis.
