Children with G6PD deficiency (also known as favism or glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency) are not advised to take baths with Artemisia argyi (mugwort). Favism is an inherited hemolytic disorder in which patients may experience acute intravascular hemolysis after consuming fava beans and related products. Artemisia argyi has various medicinal properties; however, its blood-activating and stasis-resolving effects may exacerbate hemolytic symptoms in individuals with G6PD deficiency. Since bathing with Artemisia argyi leaves does not treat favism and might instead trigger allergic reactions or worsen the condition, children with G6PD deficiency should especially avoid its use. For daily care of children with favism, it is primarily important to avoid foods and medications that may induce hemolysis, and to seek timely medical attention when symptoms are severe or persistent.
