Pain in the ankle may be caused by gout, but there could be other reasons as well. An accurate diagnosis depends on medical examinations and a physician's evaluation. 1. Possibility of Gout: Gout is an acute episodic joint inflammation that can cause redness, swelling, heat, and pain in the affected joint areas, including the ankle. Patients with gout typically have a history of hyperuricemia. 2. Other Causes: Ankle pain may also result from other conditions, such as muscle ligament strain due to foot trauma, joint synovitis, skeletal degeneration, or bone spurs. 3. Diagnostic Approach: If symptoms of ankle pain occur, it is recommended to seek timely medical evaluation at a hospital, including further tests such as blood uric acid level measurement, to determine whether the cause is gout or something else.
