What is simple periodontitis?
Disease description:
Recently, I have been experiencing severe gum swelling and pain, so I went to the hospital for an examination. The doctor diagnosed me with simple periodontitis. What exactly is simple periodontitis?

Simple periodontitis, also known as adult periodontitis, is a chronic inflammation of the periodontal supporting tissues primarily caused by local factors, accounting for approximately 95% of all periodontitis cases. The disease commonly occurs in individuals over the age of 35 and often develops from gingivitis. If gingivitis is not treated promptly, the inflammation may spread from the gums deeper into the periodontal ligament, alveolar bone, and cementum, leading to periodontitis.
Clinical features include: early stages often lack noticeable symptoms and may be easily overlooked. As the condition progresses, symptoms may include periodontal pocket formation, pus discharge from the periodontal tissues, tooth mobility, reduced biting force, dull pain, gingival bleeding, and worsening halitosis. When the body's resistance decreases, periodontal abscesses may develop, presenting as oval-shaped, red, swollen protrusions on the gums, increased tooth mobility, and tenderness upon percussion.
Treatment involves addressing local irritants through supragingival scaling or subgingival curettage. When necessary, occlusal adjustment, elimination of food impaction, and correction of faulty restorations should also be performed. Early medical consultation is recommended.
