What are the symptoms and treatment methods for heatstroke?
Disease description:
My son went out to play yesterday and suffered from heatstroke. He couldn't eat much today and has a slight fever. What should we do?
The symptoms of heatstroke are influenced by the severity of the condition:
1. Early-stage heatstroke: headache, dizziness, thirst, weakness in the limbs, and excessive sweating, with normal or slightly elevated body temperature (≤37.5℃).
2. Mild heatstroke: in addition to the early-stage symptoms, body temperature rises above 38℃, accompanied by facial flushing, chest tightness, hot skin, nausea, vomiting, and decreased blood pressure.
3. Severe heatstroke: includes heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke (hyperpyrexia ≥40℃), characterized by absence of sweating, impaired consciousness or even coma, and potentially severe symptoms such as muscle spasms, convulsions, and difficulty breathing.
Treatment for heatstroke includes:
1. Rapid cooling: move the patient to a cool place and lower body temperature using cold water, wet towels, or ice packs.
2. Rehydration and electrolyte replacement: drink diluted salt water or electrolyte-containing beverages to prevent dehydration.
3. Medication: take antispasmodic and cooling medications under a physician's guidance when necessary.
4. Medical care: patients with severe heatstroke should be sent to a hospital immediately for professional treatment, including intravenous fluid administration, intubation, and other necessary interventions.
