What symptoms occur when suffering from heatstroke?
Disease description:
I feel dizzy and nauseous, as if I might have heatstroke, because I was rehearsing under the sun all morning. I would like to know what symptoms can occur when someone has heatstroke?
Heatstroke can present with a variety of symptoms depending on the severity of the condition:
1. **Early-stage heatstroke (heat exhaustion):** Symptoms include headache, thirst, dizziness, weakness in the limbs, heavy sweating, and difficulty concentrating. Body temperature may be normal or slightly elevated (usually not exceeding 37.5°C).
2. **Mild heatstroke:** Symptoms worsen, with body temperature rising above 38°C. Additional symptoms may include flushed face, chest tightness, hot dry skin, decreased blood pressure, rapid pulse, and cold, clammy limbs.
3. **Severe heatstroke:** This includes three conditions: heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke (also called hyperpyrexia or heat stroke).
- **Heat cramps:** Muscle spasms and pain may occur.
- **Heat exhaustion:** In addition to the above symptoms, extreme thirst, nausea, vomiting, pale or cold, clammy skin may appear.
- **Heatstroke (hyperpyrexia):** Body temperature may rise above 40°C, accompanied by absence of sweating, altered mental status, or even coma. Heatstroke has a high mortality rate and requires immediate medical attention.
Heatstroke symptoms vary widely in severity, from mild discomfort to life-threatening conditions. Prompt and appropriate measures must be taken based on the patient's condition.
