What should I do if my direct bilirubin level is high?
Disease description:
I caught a cold a few days ago and felt unwell. I went to the hospital for blood tests, and one of the results showed elevated direct bilirubin. May I ask, what should I do if direct bilirubin is high?

When direct bilirubin levels are elevated, appropriate measures should be taken according to the specific cause. First, identify the underlying cause of the elevation, such as hepatitis, gallstones, or cirrhosis. If the elevation is physiological, for example in newborns or following a temporary increase after eating, special treatment is generally not required and the condition may resolve on its own.
For pathological causes, antiviral therapy along with medications to protect the liver and reduce jaundice is needed in cases of hepatitis; for gallstones, surgical or medical treatment should be considered to relieve the obstruction. Regarding lifestyle adjustments, avoid greasy, fried, and spicy foods, quit smoking and alcohol consumption, ensure adequate rest, and avoid staying up late.
Additionally, if the elevation is severe or accompanied by other significant symptoms, prompt medical attention is recommended, and standardized treatment should be followed as directed by a physician.
