What causes red-colored urine?
Disease description:
I have noticed that my urine has been red in color for the past few days, appearing as if it contains blood. I would like to ask the doctor, what could cause red-colored urine?
Red-colored urine may be caused by various factors. The most common reasons include certain foods (such as beetroot, certain medications or supplements) or insufficient water intake. However, red urine could also be a sign of the following conditions:
1. Hematuria: The presence of red blood cells in the urine, which may be due to urinary tract infections, kidney stones, nephritis, tumors, or other structural issues (such as inflammation or injury of the bladder wall).
2. Medication effects: Certain medications, such as diuretics, antibiotics, anticoagulants, or some over-the-counter drugs (such as rhubarb or laxatives), may also cause urine discoloration.
3. Exercise-induced hematuria: Temporary hematuria occasionally occurs after strenuous exercise, usually related to minor rupture of small blood vessels in the kidneys.
4. Urinary system diseases: Prostate problems, urethral stricture, or urethritis may also cause changes in urine color.
If the red coloration of urine persists, especially when accompanied by symptoms such as pain, frequent urination, urgency, fever, or back pain, immediate medical attention should be sought.
