How to treat dyshidrotic eczema in postpartum women
Disease description:
I am 30 years old. I became pregnant not long ago, and recently I suddenly developed many rashes on my body. The doctor diagnosed it as dyshidrotic eczema (dyshidrosis). I would like to know how dyshidrotic eczema is treated in pregnant women?
The treatment methods for dyshidrotic eczema in pregnant women include:
1. General treatment: Keep the affected skin clean and dry, and avoid scratching to prevent secondary infection. Topical medications such as calamine lotion may be used for local itch relief and protection.
2. Medication therapy: Under a doctor's guidance, topical corticosteroid creams, such as mometasone furoate cream, may be used to relieve symptoms. If itching is severe, oral antihistamines such as loratadine can be taken for itch control. For patients experiencing acute flare-ups or severe symptoms, short-term systemic corticosteroid therapy may be considered under medical supervision.
3. Adjunctive treatment: Vitamin B6 and vitamin E can serve as adjunctive therapies. The former promotes protein metabolism and improves skin health, while the latter has antioxidant properties that aid in the repair of damaged cells.
4. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatment: External application of Chinese herbs with effects of clearing heat, detoxifying, and relieving itching may be used. For example, topical wet compresses with decoctions of herbs such as Coptis (Huang Lian) and Phellodendron (Huang Bai) are suitable for mild to moderate dyshidrotic eczema accompanied by itching symptoms.
