Nocturnal emission is a natural phenomenon in which males release semen involuntarily during sleep. It typically occurs during dreams and is referred to as "dream emission." It can also happen without dreaming, which is called "slipping emission." Contributing factors mainly include psychological factors, physical condition, local pathological changes, inducing factors, and stress. Psychological factors such as excessive sexual desire or sexual excitement caused by pre-sleep sexual arousal; physical weakness may lead to underdeveloped organ function, affecting ejaculation control; local conditions such as phimosis, urethritis, and prostatitis can stimulate the genital organs to produce sperm; inducing factors, such as contact with stimulating objects or an overly heavy quilt, may also lead to nocturnal emission; furthermore, stress factors such as traditional beliefs and misconceptions about nocturnal emission may exacerbate this phenomenon. Nocturnal emission is a normal physiological process, but if it occurs frequently and affects daily life and sleep quality, it is advisable to consult a physician.
