What causes twitching of the left eyelid?
Disease description:
I am 29 years old. Recently, my left eyelid has been twitching severely. I would like to know what causes twitching of the left eyelid.
Left eyelid twitching, medically known as eyelid spasm, is usually caused by involuntary contractions of the eyelid muscles. This condition is typically temporary and may be triggered by factors such as fatigue, stress, lack of sleep, excessive caffeine intake, or dry eyes. In most cases, eyelid twitching does not indicate a serious health issue.
However, if frequent or persistent eyelid twitching is accompanied by other symptoms such as blurred vision, drooping eyelids, or weakness of facial muscles, it may be an early sign of a neurological disorder, such as Bell's palsy or blepharospasm. In such cases, prompt medical evaluation is necessary.
