What should I do if I sprain my ankle?
Disease description:
I accidentally sprained my foot while walking, and it's now swollen and uncomfortable. I would like to know, what should I do if I sprain my foot?

After a foot sprain, the following measures should be taken immediately to reduce pain and swelling and promote recovery:
1. Rest: Avoid bearing weight and keep the foot as still as possible to minimize movement and prevent further injury.
2. Ice: Apply ice packs for 15 to 20 minutes every 2 to 3 hours during the first 24 to 72 hours after the injury to help reduce swelling and pain.
3. Compression: Wrap the affected area with an elastic bandage, applying gentle pressure to limit swelling, but ensure it is not too tight to avoid restricting blood circulation.
4. Elevation: Elevate the injured foot above heart level whenever possible, such as by resting it on a pillow, to help reduce swelling.
If pain persists or swelling is severe, an X-ray may be needed to rule out a fracture.
