Dr. Lu Cheng
Otitis media is usually caused by bacterial or viral infections, and the main symptoms include: 1. Ear pain: This is the most common symptom, which may be a persistent dull ache or sharp pain, especially worsening during swallowing or yawning. 2. Hearing loss: Inflammation or fluid accumulation in the eardrum may cause hearing to become muffled or diminished. 3. Fever: Especially in children, there may be a range from low-grade to high fever. 4. Ear discharge: There may be yellow or white ear discharge, sometimes accompanied by an unpleasant odor. 5. Nighttime crying: Children with otitis media may cry and become restless at night due to pain, affecting sleep. 6. Infants may present with atypical symptoms such as irritability, ear pulling, head shaking, decreased appetite, or behavioral changes. Note that if the above symptoms occur, especially in children, prompt medical attention is advised.
