Closed comedones, pimples, and acne exhibit clear differences in skin conditions, mainly reflected in the following aspects: Closed comedones, also known as closed comedone acne or whiteheads, represent a mild form of acne. Pimples refer to a chronic inflammatory disease of the hair follicles and sebaceous glands, also known as acne vulgaris. Acne includes two types: whiteheads and blackheads, which are the basic forms of acne. Closed comedones typically appear as small, white, grain-like papules on the skin, without inflammatory reactions such as redness or swelling, but may be accompanied by mild discomfort. Pimples often present with symptoms such as redness, swelling, pain, and pus-filled lesions, with more noticeable symptoms. Among acne types, whiteheads are similar to closed comedones, while blackheads appear black due to oxidation of sebum. Closed comedones are often associated with excessive keratin buildup and overproduction of sebum, which leads to clogged hair follicles. Pimples may be caused by multiple factors, including excessive sebum production and inflammation. Acne formation may be related to hormonal imbalances, excessive sebaceous gland secretion, and blockage of the hair follicle-sebaceous gland duct. In terms of treatment, closed comedones can be improved through regular exfoliation and maintaining skin cleanliness; pimples require topical or oral medications for treatment; acne should be managed according to its specific type with appropriate interventions.
