Dr. Wang Xiaoyan
Chronic urticaria (hives) is not necessarily a symptom of anaphylactic shock. Urticaria is a common allergic skin reaction, typically manifested as skin rashes and itching. This kind of reaction is generally mild and can be relieved by oral administration of antiallergic medications. Anaphylactic shock, however, is a severe allergic reaction that can be life-threatening, presenting symptoms such as decreased blood pressure and difficulty breathing. Although skin rashes and itching on the skin or mucous membranes may also occur, these symptoms are relatively mild in comparison. Therefore, urticaria and anaphylactic shock are two different types of allergic reactions and urticaria should not simply be regarded as a symptom of anaphylactic shock. If urticaria or symptoms suggestive of anaphylactic shock occur, prompt medical attention should be sought.
