After induced labor, lochia refers to the blood, tissue fragments, and other materials expelled as the endometrium sheds following childbirth. It is a normal phenomenon during the uterus's recovery process. Under normal circumstances, lochia undergoes three stages: 1. **Bright red lochia** (approximately days 1-7): It appears bright red and heavy, similar to menstrual flow, containing a large amount of blood and shed endometrial tissue. 2. **Pink lochia** (approximately days 8-14): The color gradually lightens to pink or brown, with decreased blood content, and may be mixed with mucus. 3. **White or yellow lochia** (approximately after day 14): This stage marks the ending phase, with a lighter color mainly consisting of white blood cells and residual decidua. It may last up to about 6 weeks postpartum. If the lochia lasts longer than 6 weeks, or if there is heavy bleeding, abnormal color, foul odor, or associated symptoms such as fever or abdominal pain, prompt medical attention is advised.
