Disease description:

I sometimes eat loach myself, and I've heard from elders that it's good for health. However, I currently have high uric acid levels and am wondering if I can still eat loach. Can someone please tell me, is it safe to eat loach when you have high uric acid?

Patients with high uric acid levels are not advised to consume weatherfish (eel), primarily because weatherfish is a high-purine food. When patients with elevated uric acid consume excessive purines, these purines are metabolized into uric acid in the body, increasing the production of serum uric acid and potentially elevating its levels further. This may trigger or worsen uric acid-related diseases, such as gout. Therefore, patients with high uric acid levels should strictly limit their intake of high-purine foods, such as weatherfish, sea fish, meat broth, and animal offal, and opt for low-purine foods like fresh vegetables and fruits. Additionally, maintaining adequate hydration can help promote uric acid excretion and stabilize uric acid levels. If concerns arise, it is recommended to promptly seek advice from a physician or nutritionist.
