Can patients with gout drink coconut water?
Disease description:
I live in Hainan and often drink coconut water. Recently, I was diagnosed with gout, and I would like to know whether people with gout can drink coconut water.
Gout patients can drink coconut water, but should do so in moderation. Coconut water is a low-purine beverage, with a purine content of approximately 25mg per 100g, much lower than the standard for high-purine foods. Therefore, it does not significantly increase blood uric acid levels or worsen gout symptoms. In addition, coconut water also contains abundant minerals (such as magnesium and potassium), amino acids, vitamins, and has a mild diuretic effect, which helps reduce uric acid concentration in the body and promotes uric acid excretion. Coconut water does contain some sugar; although its sugar content is not high, excessive consumption may still lead to excessive sugar intake, which is not beneficial for the health of gout patients. Therefore, gout patients should drink coconut water in moderation and avoid excessive consumption.
