Can patients with gout drink red wine?
Disease description:
I have a habit of drinking red wine, but I also have gout. I'm not sure if they conflict. I would like to ask, can people with gout drink red wine?

Gout patients are not advised to drink red wine, mainly for the following reasons:
1. Alcohol affects uric acid metabolism: Red wine contains alcohol, which is metabolized in the human body into lactic acid. Lactic acid competes with uric acid for excretion through the kidneys, resulting in reduced uric acid excretion and elevated blood uric acid levels, which may trigger or worsen gout symptoms.
2. Promotes uric acid production: Alcohol also promotes the conversion of adenosine nucleotides, accelerates ATP breakdown in the body, increases uric acid production, and further exacerbates the state of hyperuricemia.
3. Exacerbates inflammation: During an acute gout attack, drinking red wine can worsen the inflammatory symptoms of gouty arthritis, intensifying discomfort such as pain and swelling.
Gout patients should pay attention to dietary adjustments, avoid intake of high-purine foods, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
