Disease description:

My blood sugar is a bit high. I occasionally drink some red wine in daily life. I've heard that red wine can be beneficial to health to some extent, but I'm also worried it might cause my blood sugar to go out of control. I'd like to ask, can people with high blood sugar actually drink red wine?

High blood sugar levels generally do not recommend drinking red wine.

Red wine contains a certain amount of sugar and has a relatively high calorie content. This may further elevate blood glucose levels and increase the risk of diabetes complications. Long-term alcohol consumption, including red wine, may lead to obesity, which is closely related to insulin resistance and can further affect blood sugar control.

Diabetic patients with poor blood sugar control should be cautious when consuming red wine or any alcoholic beverages. While moderate alcohol consumption may benefit cardiovascular health, alcohol can affect blood glucose levels and cause fluctuations, especially for individuals using insulin or other glucose-lowering medications.

Alcohol inhibits the liver's release of glucose and may cause hypoglycemia, while excessive alcohol consumption may raise blood sugar levels. Additionally, alcohol contains calories that may affect weight management and subsequently impact blood sugar control.

Before considering alcohol consumption, diabetic patients should consult their doctor or nutritionist to develop a personalized dietary plan based on individual health status and blood sugar control.
