Can patients with gout consume vinegar?
Disease description:
I personally enjoy eating sour foods, especially vinegar, which I really like. I would like to know, can people with gout consume vinegar?
Gout patients can consume vinegar. Although vinegar tastes acidic, it is actually an alkaline-forming food and contains no purines, therefore it will not increase blood uric acid levels and will not worsen the condition. For gout patients, moderate vinegar consumption is acceptable, and vinegar also has certain nutritional and medicinal benefits, such as improving skin appearance, reducing pigmentation and aging, killing bacteria, disinfecting, promoting gastrointestinal motility, and stimulating appetite. However, during acute gout attacks, vinegar, being acidic in nature, may affect uric acid excretion and increase blood uric acid levels, so vinegar intake should be controlled. In addition, gout patients should maintain adequate hydration to promote uric acid excretion and avoid consuming high-purine foods such as seafood and meats in order to maintain stable uric acid levels.
