Patients with gout should not consume white liquor (baijiu), mainly for the following reasons: 1. **Promotes uric acid production**: Alcohol in baijiu produces lactic acid during metabolism, which inhibits the excretion of uric acid by renal tubules, leading to elevated levels of uric acid in the body. Additionally, alcohol promotes the conversion of adenosine monophosphate to hypoxanthine, thereby increasing uric acid production, which is highly detrimental for patients with gout. 2. **Interferes with uric acid excretion**: Alcohol in baijiu disrupts the kidneys' normal function of excreting uric acid, causing uric acid to accumulate in the blood, which may trigger an acute attack of gouty arthritis. 3. **Affects liver function**: Long-term and excessive consumption of baijiu increases the burden on the liver and impairs its ability to metabolize uric acid, further worsening the condition of patients with gout.
