Can people with gout eat green beans and string beans?
Disease description:
I really enjoy eating green beans, but I recently experienced a gout attack with discomfort in my legs and feet. I would like to know whether people with gout can eat green beans and string beans.
Gout patients can moderately consume green beans and yardlong beans (cowpeas) during the stable phase of the disease, but should pay attention to the following points:
1. Purine content: Green beans and yardlong beans do not belong to high-purine foods. Therefore, moderate consumption during non-acute stages of gout will not significantly affect uric acid levels.
2. Disease stage: If gout patients are in an acute flare-up phase with symptoms such as redness, swelling, heat, and pain in the joints, it is recommended to avoid eating green beans and yardlong beans to prevent exacerbating the condition.
3. Dietary combination: Gout patients should maintain a balanced diet, consume more low-purine foods such as fresh vegetables and fruits, and limit intake of high-purine foods such as animal offal and seafood.
4. Individual constitution: There are differences in constitution and condition among patients; therefore, before consuming green beans and yardlong beans, it is necessary to follow medical advice and adjust dietary plans according to individual circumstances.
