Can patients with gout drink cold beverages?
Disease description:
Recently, the weather has been hot, and I've really wanted to drink cold beverages. However, I've had a recent gout flare-up and am unsure whether it's okay for me to consume them. I'd like to ask, is it safe for someone with gout to drink cold beverages?

Gout patients are not advised to consume cold beverages. The main reasons are as follows:
1. **Fructose content in cold beverages**: Some cold drinks, especially sugary beverages, contain high levels of fructose. The metabolism of fructose promotes uric acid production, which may elevate blood uric acid levels and trigger or worsen gout symptoms.
2. **Temperature irritation from cold beverages**: The low temperature of cold beverages may irritate the gastrointestinal tract, causing blood vessel constriction in the stomach and intestines, affecting digestion and absorption, and potentially stimulating autonomic nerve activity, which may trigger gout attacks.
3. **Potential high-purine risk in cold beverages**: Although not all cold beverages contain high levels of purines, certain fruit-based or specially formulated cold drinks may contain a certain amount of purines, which is unfavorable for gout patients.
